This is an extremely simple love story that is doing pretty well at the box office. As Eng Tiong puts it, it feels like a long-form music video. Don’t get us wrong. That’s not bad at all!

The one thing SECRET has is “feel”. That’s probably the most important thing a film needs. And of course, we need Jay Chou or nobody’s going to watch the film!

And that brings us to 2 questions:

1. Can Singapore filmmakers make a love story like this?
Of course! No doubt about it!

2. Will a similar Singapore film do well at the box office?
In all honesty, NO. Unless we get someone as famous as Jay Chou. We doubt any local actor can pull off what he did. SECRET has Jay Chou written all over it. Without him, SECRET will just be another script that gets chuck out the window faster than I can say “The secret is…”

Taiwanese director Kevin Chu once related that he wrote the Slam Dunk script and had every intention to get Jay Chou to play the lead. He knows that Jay Chou likes basketball. But Mr. Chou read the script and rejected the role. And what did director Chu did? He rewrote the script and this time, Jay Chou agreed to come onboard.

Till we get bankable stars or even bankable directors (not necessary locals), a local film like SECRET will have to wait.

Eng Tiong posing with our teaser poster.

Our teaser poster will be up in GV cineplexes this week! The above picture is a test of our poster in the lightbox. Looking good!

In addition, our trailer will also be out this week in selected GV theatres.

Help us spot our posters and trailers! Leave a comment and tell us where you’ve seen them. Especially for our trailer, let us know:

1. Which GV cineplex?
2. W
hich movie you’ve caught with our trailer?
3. Which hall?

4. The movie’s showtime

That’ll greatly help us evaluate our marketing strategy!

For your kind help, we’ve rummaged through our drawers and closets to find a good reward…

Happy spotting! :)

Representing Pilgrim Pictures at the 2007 WEVA Expo is Eng Tiong, who was back by popular demand to deliver his seminar “Creating Photo Montages Clients Love & Recommend”. Held at Bally’s/Paris Las Vegas along the famous strip, the WEVA Expo is now in its 17th year!

Paris Hotel Las Vegas

There’s many seminars to go to – from demos to tips & tricks to business development to marketing. This is THE place to catch wedding videographers in action!

Look at the above picture – using a jib arm at a wedding??!!! Of course, this is just a demo to show a 9-camera setup. A 9-camera what???!! That’s what we mean… you’ll be blown away by the possibilities of projects other videographers are up to. Here at the WEVA Expo, wedding videography is serious business. Very serious business.

And a new friend also from this part of the world – Imacron’s Dominic Velasco from the Philippines. He’s the seminar speaker in the above photo. His company is doing real good! They’ve been snatching up the CEA awards for the past 2 years!

And finally, Eng Tiong’s seminar on Wednesday, August 15.

Eng Tiong is surprised to see that the room is full again! And thank you to the many fellow videographers who come up to Eng Tiong to say very kind and encouraging words.

Our biggest thanks to our pal, Danny Sayson. He’s been offering us tons of advice and his seminars are fantastic! We’ve picked up lots of tips and tricks from this guy! He owns a production house in Canada, Sayson Video Productions, and he’s just completed a TV travel series called West Coast Adventures.

All in, once again, WEVA Expo is an extremely fruitful trip. Looking forward to Expo 2008!

Eng Tiong is once again invited to speak at this year’s WEVA Expo. To be held this month from the 13th to the 16th, this annual event will take place at Bally’s/ Paris Las Vegas.

Back by popular demand, Eng Tiong will reprise his seminar on “How to Create Photo Montages Clients Love and Recommend”. If you missed his seminar last year, be sure to catch it this time!

Michelangelo Antionioni

Eminent Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni passed away on July 30, 2007. He was 94. Coincidentally, 2 greatest directors of all time (Ingmar Bergman & him) left this world on the same day.

Like Bergman, Antonioni’s films are also studied in film schools, the most notably being L’AVVENTURA. If I remembered correctly, my lecturer loved the last shot and was enthusiastically explaining the aethestics, the beautiful film language used, etc, etc, etc…  Not that I fell asleep. At 17 years old, I just didn’t get it!

But as I grow older and gather more and more life experiences, I finally understand…
